A light rain is falling on Seattle, and there is just enough of a breeze to bring the glowing golden leaves down to the ground, where I will likely slip on them shortly. On this prototypical autumn day here in Seattle, I have decided to write my first post.
Hello blogosphere. I’m Paul Zitarelli, and I have decided to write about my favorite topic: the wines of Washington State. I am not the first to cover this territory, as you can see from the blogroll on the right. But there are nearly 600 wineries in Washington state, so I think there’s room for at least one more blogger. Did you know that 96% of Washington wineries produce fewer than 20,000 cases per year? These smaller wineries generally can’t afford to or choose not to engage in large-scale marketing efforts, so one of my hopes in starting this site is to give free marketing to some of these amazing producers.
One potential frustration I could see developing as I write about Washington wines is that you will want to try them, but the wines will be unavailable in your area (this is an especially acute problem outside of Washington state). Fear not! As a second-year MBA student, I am also working on a project to sell boutique Washington wines through an e-mailing list. If you’re interested in hearing more or reserving a spot on the list, contact me.
